The Mont-Blanc massif lends itself to a very particular and exceptional practice of paragliding: paraalpinism.
Please note, this practice often called hiuke-and-fly is very demanding. Before you can take off from a high mountain peak, you must first climb it safely. Before being a paralpinist, you have to be a mountaineer. You will have to ensure that all the conditions, for ascent and flight, are optimal for a safe flight.
* The take-off areas at the summit are reduced due to the existence of the nature reserve on the summit ridge. Takeoffs are only authorized in the north direction.
Takeoff 1: the Col des Dômes is suitable for a “safe” takeoff if it is supplied from the north; the slope there gets very steep very quickly.
Takeoff 2: the 3rd dome, at the top of the tapered edge; flight towards Saint-Gervais. Beyond that, takeoff is prohibited.
The takeoffs are steep and exposed. On the other hand, once taken off, flying the Miage domes is relatively easy.
Expereinced or Confirmed paralpinist, or hike-and-fly practiioners.
All landings in Val Montjoie are possible, the best certainly being to fly straight towards the Passy-Marlioz landing, well clear, aerologically healthy at all times and offering the greatest difference in altitude.
