The restricted zones “LF-R 30 A and LF-R30 B Mont-Blanc” were created and activated on March 22, 2001 by ministerial decree. They impose a mandatory bypass for ultra-light gliders (PUL). Paragliders and hang gliders must therefore not enter this zone unless they are at a height of 1,000 m from the ground and above flight level FL 115 (3,500 m). This area protects the operations of helicopters on mountain rescue missions. The Chamonix Mountain Rescue (PGHM) is one of the busiest and most elite mountain rescue teams in the world and this regulation ensures safe operations.
