These regulations, recommended by the FFVL, layout the requirements for speedriding in the resort ski area (accessible from the top of the ski lifts).
These regulations also apply to non-regulated large off-piste areas.
Some resorts have strictly prohibited the practice by municipal decree, so make sure you are at one of the approved areas.
Compulsory aviation liability insurance: only the FFVL currently recognizes and insures speedriding (RCA paragliding) and snowkiting.
Wearing a helmet is mandatory.
The practice is only tolerated in certain off-piste areas.
Any practice (take-off, canopy skiing, landing or inflation, etc.) must be done outside the marked slopes (including when the slopes are closed).
Flying over ski runs at least 50 m above the snow: the pilot must be able to land off the groomed trail at any time.
Priority to skiers with a minimum separation distance of 50 m.
Constructed obstacles (ski lifts, power lines, etc):
In flight minimum horizontal and vertical distance of 50 m.
On skis under sail minimum distance of 20 m.
Passage under obstacles prohibited.
Use of ski lifts: the wing must be carefully stored to avoid any danger of getting tangled (restraint bag recommended).
Visual flight rules:
Takeoff prohibited after legal sunset time.
Minimum visibility: 1,500 m.
Stay out of the clouds.
Priority rules between speed riders and other riders:
Priority to the downstream pilot.
Priority right.
Overtaking on the right.
The overtaken pilot has priority.
If you have any doubts about an authorized area, avalanche conditions, etc., do not hesitate to contact the mountain ski patrol.
The development, regulation and future use of these new free flight areas depends on you being a conscientious pilot.
Ski lifts and municipalities have the power to prohibit any practice in areas accessible by speedwing from the ski lifts.
Your behavior at resorts, as well as on major backcountry areas and adventure areas will determine the future of our sports, so be kind.
Be supportive, responsible and leave no trace!
